One of the hardest things to do for me, as a street photographer, is to photograph my friends. At least, it makes me have to think harder about making photographs. If you know a little about Korea, you’ll know how much we like to take posed and usually cheesy photos, kikiki. It’s a very hard habit to break, ever for someone who knows they want to break it!
Photographing friends can be hard! They are always ready to have their picture taken. This past weekend, we went to Gunsan to take pictures and look around this old part of the town with a train track running through it’s middle. It was Josh and I, and two of my best friends whom I went to Australia with Jenny and Dae woo (pictured).
It’s easy to take a posed photo! Trust me, my friends like to pose I feel like when people pose, it’s harder to see their real personality! When someone poses, they are showing you what they want you to see.. These are some of my best friends, and when I photographer them I want to see the person I know The person they usually are!
I think that one shows Jenny well, hehehe.
Josh is no different. A second earlier I took a photo of him where he obviously knew I was taking his picture. Even in trying to look natural, it’s a hard thing to do! I waited for a “real” moment.
Even when they do notice you, it can be okay. I liked this one She’s smiling at me, but it’s a natural smile.. The road itself was very nice to take pictures of too!
Honestly, I was just happy to be spending time with friends I don’t see that often anymore! I could have easily thought that it wouldn’t be that interesting to take pictures of my friends, especially in a place like this! But for me, being with them and remembering being together was more important! Sometimes as photographers, we forget to appreciate the other parts of our lives~
People sometimes need to remember that taking a photo can be second to having fun and living! It’s okay to take some pictures of that Some pictures are just for memories, and that’s completely okay!
So the next time you’re with your friends and find yourself frustrated because you aren’t photographing the amazing place around you, try to feel happy! Think about it like a challenge, and take some pictures for your own memory. We may be street photographers somedays, but we are people everyday!
At the very least, remember to have fun
Bye bye and see you all soon~
